Before your celebration
Ordering & cake care
The practical details for custom cakes and sweet treats. If your order is for a wedding, please read the wedding terms too.
Ordering & notice
Send me a WhatsApp message with your date and preferred collection or delivery time, the occasion, product and quantity, number of servings, flavour ideas, design details and any inspiration photos. Please tell me about dietary requirements when you enquire.
I recommend at least one week’s notice for most orders and two weeks for detailed royal icing cookies. I may be able to accommodate shorter notice, depending on my availability and the design. A last-minute fee may apply. Wedding cakes are best booked three to six months ahead; shorter notice is considered case by case.
Cupcakes, cake pops and decorated royal icing cookies have a minimum order of 12 per item or design. Bento cakes are made to order. Cake sizes and serving quantities vary with the order, and I can help you choose a suitable size.
Quotes & payment
Each custom cake is quoted individually. Size, servings, flavour, filling, decorations and the level of detail all affect the price. Once I have the details and have checked availability, I usually prepare a quote within 1–2 days.
A quote does not secure your date. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to book an order. Your booking is confirmed only when the deposit has been received and I have confirmed it. Orders placed within 10 days of collection may require full payment upfront.
The balance must be paid before collection or delivery. Please provide proof of payment, or allow the payment to reflect in my bank account, before handover. Cash is accepted for the outstanding balance at collection if you bring the exact amount; the booking deposit is still required.
Changes & cancellations
Tell me as early as possible if you need to change a design, size, flavour, filling or other detail. Changes depend on availability and how far the order has progressed. Additional ingredients, decorations or work may add to the cost; significant changes after design approval may need a revised quote. Some changes cannot be made once preparation or decorating has started.
Deposits are generally non-refundable because they reserve a date and allow me to start planning and buying supplies. For cancellations made well in advance, I may consider a partial refund case by case, taking circumstances and costs already incurred into account.
If illness, an emergency or another unforeseen event prevents me from completing a confirmed order, I will try to arrange a trusted cake artist of similar quality. With your agreement, payments already received can be transferred to that baker and you would pay any balance directly to them. If no suitable replacement is available, or you do not want that arrangement, I will refund all payments received for the order.
Collection & delivery
Collect your order by appointment from my home-based business in Somerset West. I share the collection address after your booking is confirmed. Please arrive at the agreed time. Weekend and after-hours collections may be arranged in advance, depending on availability.
Delivery is available to selected areas, with the fee calculated at approximately R6 per kilometre based on AA rates. I do not deliver to rural areas. Times, distances and fees are agreed in advance. Venue setup is quoted separately according to the time and work required.
Wedding cakes are normally delivered and set up at the venue by me. Please see the wedding terms for those arrangements. Cake stands and cake knives are not included unless we agree otherwise.
Transport & cake care
On the way home
- Lift and carry the cake from the bottom of the box, never by its sides.
- Keep the box level on a flat, stable surface, ideally the car floor or a flat boot.
- Keep the vehicle cool, avoid direct sunlight and drive gently without sudden turns or braking.
Before serving
- Keep the cake inside its box in the refrigerator or a suitable air-conditioned room.
- Let it reach room temperature while still boxed: generally 30 minutes to one hour in warm weather, or one to two hours when it is cooler.
- Serve at room temperature for the best flavour and texture. Avoid sudden temperature changes, heat and direct sun.
- Use a sharp knife. Remove any inedible toppers and internal supports, including toothpicks, skewers or wires, before cutting. Keep these away from children.
Once an order has been collected, safe transport and handling are the customer’s responsibility unless delivery has been arranged.
Dietary & design notes
Some gluten-free and egg-free or vegan-style cakes may be possible if requested in advance. I cannot offer completely sugar-free or diabetic-friendly cakes. My kitchen regularly uses flour, gluten and nuts, and cross-contact is possible. I cannot guarantee a product free from allergen traces, and I do not hold specialised allergen-free preparation certification. Some recipes include other potential allergens, such as pineapple in the Carrot & Pecan cake. Please discuss any allergy with me before booking so I can advise whether I can safely accommodate it.
Every custom cake is handmade. Inspiration photos guide the design, but exact replicas and perfectly identical colours or details cannot be guaranteed. I will tell you when a design includes non-edible decorations, toppers or flowers. Significant design changes may affect the final quote.
