Wedding cake terms

I take a limited number of wedding cake bookings per date so I can give each couple’s cake the attention it deserves. These details help us plan your day together.

Planning & booking

I recommend booking three to six months ahead for consultations, design planning, tastings where required, and sourcing special materials. Shorter notice may be possible, depending on availability and the design. Wedding tasting boxes can be arranged where required, subject to availability.

Tell me your date, venue, guest numbers, serving plans, design ideas, colours, flavours, fillings and any inspiration photos. I’ll discuss the concept with you and prepare a personalised quote.

A quotation does not reserve your wedding date. A 50% non-refundable deposit secures the booking once it has been received, proof of payment has been provided and I have confirmed it.

Payment

The 50% deposit is due when you accept the quotation. Please use the bride’s name as the payment reference so I can identify it. The remaining balance must be paid in full at least seven days before the wedding. A missed payment deadline may affect the booking or delivery arrangements.

Design details

We’ll agree on the design, cake size, flavours, fillings and finishing details in advance. Inspiration photos are welcome, but every cake is handmade, so I cannot guarantee an exact replica.

Please tell me about any requested changes as early as possible. Changes depend on availability, the stage of preparation and any extra work or materials. Significant changes after design and quote approval may require a revised quote.

Delivery & setup

I deliver and assemble wedding cakes at the venue to protect them in transit and present them as intended. Collection is not normally available; I may consider an exception for a single-tier cake at my discretion.

Delivery is charged separately at approximately R6 per kilometre. Venue setup and assembly are charged according to the time and work required. We’ll agree on access time, venue requirements and applicable fees in advance. Unexpected waiting time, venue delays or changes to the agreed setup may incur additional charges.

Please ensure that the venue is ready and accessible at the agreed time, with a suitable space for the cake. Cake stands, knives and any special structures or equipment must be discussed in advance; they are not included by default.

Changes & cancellations

The 50% booking deposit is non-refundable because it secures the date and covers planning and supplies. If you cancel well in advance, I may consider a partial refund at my discretion, depending on the circumstances and costs already incurred. Please contact me as soon as possible if your plans change.

If illness, an emergency or another unforeseen event prevents me from completing the order, I’ll try to arrange a trusted cake artist of similar standard. With your agreement, payments already received can be transferred to that baker, and you would settle any balance directly with them. If no suitable replacement is available, or you do not wish to proceed with that arrangement, I’ll refund all payments received.

Venue care & final details

Once the cake has been delivered, assembled and handed to the designated venue representative or client, its care and safekeeping become the recipient’s responsibility. Keep it in a cool, suitable place away from sunlight and heat. Any movement after setup should be handled with care.

Please provide the venue address, delivery time, contact person and any access or setup requirements well in advance. Tell me promptly about changes to the schedule or venue; requests close to the wedding may not be possible to accommodate.

By confirming the booking and paying the deposit, you acknowledge these wedding cake terms. For transport, serving and dietary guidance, please read ordering and cake care.
